In my study of the 66 VHSL state championship teams from 1999-09, I found that there are certain traits that state championship teams have during their championship seasons.

Knowing these traits it's possible to create a system to eliminate teams from state championship consideration if they do not have the championship traits.

VHSL-Reference Football State Championship Team Traits
1. 65/66 scored over 41 points in at least 1 game.
2. 66/66 had a margin of victory greater than +20, at least 4 times.
3. 65/66 never allowed more than 42 points in a game. (PA < 42)
4. 66/66 had an average margin of victory greater than 10 points per game.
5. 65/66 were never shutout. (PF>0)
6. 59/60 had a winning or .500 record in previous year.
7. 64/66 had a margin of victory greater than +30, at least 1 time.
8. 64/66 had 3 losses or less.
9. 61/66 had a least 1 defensive shutout.
10. 62/66 had a margin of victory greater than +40, at least 1 time.
